Birth month? September
-
Marriage anniversary date? Nov 13, 2015
-
What is your family heritage? Jamaicans! The best people on Earth.
-
What is your spouse’s family heritage? Hungarian - On his Father's side. Polish - On his Mother's side. Essentially, Eastern European. However, he's 3rd and 4th generation American, on each of his parent's side, and as such considers himself 100% American.
-
How many children? One deggeh deggeh one.😊 A 17-year-old college freshman named Blake.
-
Do you have pets? Nope. Much to my husband's and son's displeasure. They have always wanted a puppy but I know I would be left with the responsibility of caring for our pet so it's a no from me.
-
What is your occupation(s)? Attorney-at-Law and Adjunct Professor.
-
In the morning coffee, tea or smoothie? Coffee. I must have a cup of coffee before I head out to the gym every morning. Here's a weird thing about me - I make my coffee the old-fashioned way. I own a coffee maker that I only use when guests come over. Usually, I boil water in my red kettle and pour over my "instant coffee crystals", sweeten with French Vanilla creamer, pour in my red thermos and I'm out the door.
-
In the evening wine, beer or spirit? If I go out - It's a Lemon Drop Martini.
When I'm at home and I'm in the mood to unwind after a long day I'll opt for red wine, semi-sweet, never dry.
I have never liked the taste of beer. -
What is your favorite phase when you get upset? Well, that all depends on the reason why I am upset. 😊
Typically, if I am frustrated or overwhelmed I'll say something like, "Mi cya badda." Followed by long-drawn-out kissing of my teeth. This translates to "I cannot be bothered."
If the cause of my "upset" is anger - I'll TRY to remind myself that anger is an expensive emotion and try to take a breath. Note the operative word here is "try", in the midst of anger, it is sometimes hard to remember to keep calm.
If the cause of my "upset" evokes sadness then my go-to phrase will always be "This too shall pass." -
What makes you feel overwhelmed? I always feel so very busy. There are so many things to do and so little within which to do it. I have two very demanding careers and those are the things that contribute to my overwhelm most times. The nature of my work is governed by deadlines that must be met and since I am meticulous it takes me
that much longer to get things done. I am obsessed with dotting all the i's and crossing all my t's and
that can be very time-consuming which translates to overwhelm. -
What gives you strength? Great question. This is gonna require some serious thought. Hmmm 🤔 I think I pull strength from a spiritual belief that God or the Universe never gives us more than we can bear. I truly believe that! I feel like any quagmire that I might find myself in is something I am equipped to deal with. There is a lesson in everything under the sun and I pull strength from the fact that I already have all the tools in place that are required to deal with most sticky situations. Sometimes I don't know it yet but if I pause long enough to breathe I will find the answer.
-
Who inspires you most? What qualities do they possess that inspire you? I pull inspiration from a myriad of people, actually. Mostly from people around me. People I see and interact with every day. My inspiration comes from observing others' overcome adversities and becoming successful in their endeavors.
It's difficult to name just one person since a lot of people have a story to tell about overcoming some kind of adversity and ultimately succeeding. Those are the people I find inspirational - Those who have been faced with challenges and still manage to come out on top. -
What do people mostly ask your help with? Two things - People often ask my advice. Advice on everything from legalese to relationship advice, to what to do in a sticky situation, or even what to wear. I think that has to do with the fact that I am a good listener who offers honest feedback.
The 2nd thing - Help with their writing. How to make an email or a letter or something as simple as a social media post sound more articulate or verbose. -
Complete this sentence with anything other than your job title: I am a great mother, wife, and friend. I am loyal.
-
You want to write a book on? One of my major goals in life is to actually write a book. The problem is I have no idea what I'd want to write about...I have a myriad of interests so I suppose if I combine all my interests in a non-fictional manner I could come up with a story that people would actually buy.I think the best books come from one's own experiences though. The thing is I am not sure anyone would find my life's stories interesting enough to want to read.😀

I overcame that unexpected break-up from my first husband while I still had an infant and no green card yet, living in a foreign country without my family and not many friends. I really only had him (the Ex) to rely on, the source of my pain. It was a nightmare! I overcame it though.
What doesn't it kill you (and trust me it may feel like it at the time but I promise it won't kill you) makes you stronger. It sounds cliche but it's true. I have lived it. Also, forgiveness is paramount to moving on and healing properly. It's necessary. And most importantly nuh man nuh more dan yuh.

40. What advice would you give yourself 3 years ago? 3 years from now? Three years ago was 2017 - I can't even remember what was happening with me in 2017. I'd probably tell myself not to worry about Blake he will get into a good college. He did!
I would also tell myself to step outside of my comfort zone and try teaching - I did and I love it.
I would also advise myself to be patient.
Three years from now (2024) - Again, Blake will be alright stop worrying about him. Stop already! You raised him, you groomed him. He will be great.
More 2024 advice - (To myself) Chill girl, you've got this. You WILL get paid lots of money doing what you love and your source of income will NOT feel like work. Be patient! It will happen. Trust the process, everything is unfolding as it should.
